Homemade Holiday

Christmas is one of my favorite times of year. It’s not a holiday for us but a season filled with cutting greenery and decorating our home with it, light gazing, baking and crafting. I always make an effort to purchase hand-crafted, preferably local gifts but this year most of my shopping is, well, nonexistent.

We’re making presents. I’m sorry to those of you in my family for who shudder at the thought. One taste of the Elderberry Cordial and hopefully you will be quivering with delight instead. I’m spinning and felting and hot gluing. Baking and pureeing and tincturing.

The thought of purchasing something in the hopes that the recipient will love it, but probably not is just not something I can face again. More plastic, more packaging, more time and fuel burned in the quest for that one perfect gift 25x over. So we’re saying, ‘No thank you,’ while trying really hard not to glue the knitting to the cookies.

What are your Christmas gift-giving plans?
