Why I Am Thankful

1. The rat we smell in the kitchen is so obviously dead.

2. Because of the rat, we pulled out the stove and found the rat poison underneath it. Before a cat did.
3. None of the cats has eaten said rat and partaken of said rat poison, left by previous tenants.
4. The shelf in the laundry room did not permanently damage anyone or anything when it fell off the wall on top of Eli and I.
5. That B-ster comes here every time he runs away from home.
6. We are now certain we have to replace the approximately 800′ of pipe between our house and the street because as I do laundry on Thanksgiving, the soapy water is pouring out into the back yard.
7. That it is soapy water and not certain *other* things pouring out into the back yard. We’re all holding it.
8. The smells of turkey cooking, venison roasting and bacon totally overwhelm the smell of decomposing rat.
9. Sunshine through falling leaves.
10. Family. Kids who come home. A husband who works hard.
11. The fairy house in the roots of the oak tree out front.
12. Every single event, good, bad or indifferent which led to our country having one day per year when we are encouraged to be introspective and thankful and aware of our blessings.
Amen.
