When the Vet Brings Good News

I know it’s been a wonderful day…

My horse is old. 25 to be exact. The normal life expectancy for a horse was 26 last time I checked, so while he’s not on borrowed time, he is old. The vet came today to check his heart, look at his arthritic old joints and to tell me what the heat and swelling on his pastern was all about.
His heart? All clear. No murmur, nothing at all that would indicate he can’t be ridden.
His condition? Perfect! She said, flat out, no more, no less weight and that he is amazingly fit for an old man.
His feet? Maybe a ‘tetch’ of arthritis but he does have a wee bit of a bacterial skin infection that I need to work on with Iodine and time.
Lah! I am so happy. We’re hauling the horses to Asheville with us in a few weeks and plan on some short trail rides. Me and my old man. My husband’s coming along, too.
