A Reminder: How I Want to Love
“Love is the ultimate outlaw. It just won't adhere to any rules. The most any of us can do is to sign on as its accomplice. Instead of vowing to honor and obey, maybe we should swear to aid and abet. That would mean that security is out of the question. The words "make" and "stay" become inappropriate. My love for you has no strings attached. I love you for free.” - Tom Robbins-

Sometimes in the midst of trying to ‘Live Fair’, I get lost. I as in me. The me who likes pretty things like flowers and nice skirts and good mascara. I become slovenly hippie woman and don’t buy flowers, much … Continue reading
A Garden Plan
We are trying to figure out what to do with this area: This is the Outside the Kitchen Door but No Longer a Parking Area/Diesel Storage Spot place. I want a kitchen garden out there, made with the nifty cobblestones … Continue reading
Obsessed, Facebook, Real Life and Community Gardens
Lately I’ve been playing Farmville a lot. It’s a good fit for a computer game. I get to grow stuff. I get to check out. I get to harvest, virtually, tons and tons of beautiful produce that my friends stop … Continue reading
Marigolds
Marigolds, planted in composted cow manure and a worn-out galvanized wash tub. I love the color and the smell and the ease with which these beauties grow. I’m saving a lot of seed for next year.
Zinnias
My favorite yard flower. Plant a seed. Get a flower. Love them! I think flowers make me feel good, happy, even on a bad day, a big, fat, blooming zinnia brings a smile.
Tour of Our Garden, June 2009
Here are some recent photos of our gardens. The last few years have been rough with regards to our gardening efforts. Given the fact that our tomatoes don’t do well no matter where we place them and they are our … Continue reading
Ants Don’t Like Lavender
At least, it seems that they don’t. When we planted our new planter boxes, we filled them with composted cow manure from our back pasture and it was full of ants. I did these two things: >sprinkled them with used … Continue reading
Permaculture and how it applies to our gardens
Last week my friend Melina held a permaculture workshop in her home. The children and I went. Our teacher-guide, Sally, was wonderful and used games to teach all of us about permaculture and how our (crunchy) views differ from those of most … Continue reading
Our Front Yard
Hubby, Tea, Tea’s buddy and I spent yesterday working on the flower beds in our front yard. I’ve never seen a place so filled with weed growth and even though I know this means our soil is healing, it’s still … Continue reading
FRESH, a movie about food
Some of us wonder what the world is coming to. I hope this is it.
